How are pregnancy weeks counted?

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last period, not from the day you conceived. Conception usually happens about two weeks later, so you are already counted as two weeks pregnant at that point. A full pregnancy is about 40 weeks.

When you are 12 weeks and 2 days pregnant, you have finished 12 weeks and are in your 13th week. The calculator shows both.

For example, if your last period started on 1 Mar 2026, then on 26 May 2026 you are 12 weeks and 2 days pregnant. That means you are in week 13, and your baby is due on 6 Dec 2026.

Frequently asked questions

1.How many weeks pregnant am I?

Count the full weeks since the first day of your last period. If you know your due date, count back 40 weeks to find the start. The calculator does this for you.

2.How many months is 40 weeks of pregnancy?

About nine months. Weeks are used because they are more precise; most months are a little over four weeks long.

3.Which week does the second trimester start?

Week 14. The first trimester runs to the end of week 13, and the third trimester starts at week 28.

4.Can I use my due date instead of my last period?

Yes. If your doctor gave you a due date after a scan, choose Due date in the calculator. It is often more accurate than counting from your last period.

5.Why do I feel different from the weekly guide?

Every pregnancy is different. The weekly notes describe what is common, and it is normal for symptoms and timing to vary. Ask your doctor if anything worries you.

6.Does the calculator store my dates?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, and the dates you enter are not sent to Policywings or saved.
